Booking and unlocking both work in an ordinary mobile browser. The iOS app is there if you want it, but no part of the rental depends on installing anything.
What the phone actually does
Keyless is a specific mechanism, not a mood. Here is what happens, and what happens when it does not.
The unlock
Your booking gives your account permission to open one car for one window of time. Tapping unlock sends a command to the car over the mobile network, the doors open, and the physical key is waiting in the glovebox for the drive itself.
If you have no signal
The unlock needs a connection, because the command has to travel to the car. With no data on your phone the car cannot be opened remotely, so move to a spot with coverage or message support.
If your battery dies
Charge in the car over USB. If you are standing outside it with a dead phone, support can open the car for you, seven days a week from 07:00 to midnight.
The return
Park in the same spot, put the key back, lock from the phone. That closes the rental, and the invoice follows to your account.
Do you actually need the app?
No. The whole flow, from search to unlock, runs in Safari or Chrome on a phone. The iOS app adds convenience rather than capability, and there is a waitlist for the Android one. If you are in Zurich for four days, do not spend the first of them installing software.
